Home Planet, or Earth 2.0
The world is now in flame and flood
A lost fight with the smoke and spume
Of Nature’s retribution
The conquistadores of climate
Seek pastures new.
They have carried pestilence in silver birds
Seen locust plagues across graves of tilled dust
That nearly fed us once
And nearly fed us all
While Nature nearly shared our Trust.
Trust is broken swiftly and harder to repair
The sea’s great waves, the wind’s great airs
Batter and braze and drown and roast
From shining sea to burnished coast.
Though patience was afforded
To Eve’s mistaken bite
That Adam then applauded
Seizing Earth’s great fortunes
And seized them as of right.
The core is rotting
The worm has turned
The pips no longer grow
In soil that’s only fit for dust
You reap what you shall sow.
So off we go to planets new
Conquistadores reborn
To raise and raze and rip and rape
To live another morn.
We build an Ark
For faithless men and faithless Trust
We soar and sore to planets new
To claim them as our own
To mirror what has gone before
And make them just like Home.
